I am a Harry Potter FREAK!

The freakiest of the Harry Potter freaks.

I check my email inbox every day to see if Ms. Rowling has released more chapters on Pottermore.

I read the ENTIRE series (7 books) TWICE a year. (This is NOT a lie. Ask my closest friends).

I used to dress up and go to the book parties where the town next to mine dressed the entire town square up as Diagon Alley.

I knitted a scarlet and gold Gryffindor scarf when I was 16.

I would ALWAYS get midnight tickets for opening night of the movies.

I can answer just about any question you have about the books/the movies.

I cannot stress this enough.

The past few days I have been sick in bed with the flu. And what do you do when you’re sick with the flu? Drink lots of water, tea, eat soup, work from my laptop with my Spongebob humidifier…

And start reading Harry Potter for the millionth time!

I walked over to my bookshelf and picked up my trusty old copy of Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone (also known as the The Philosopher’s Stone across the big lake) and began reading the first sentence.

“Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.”

I remember the first time I read those words, when I was in the sixth grade, and too embarrassed to tell anyone that I was reading a story about wizards and witches.

I was in my “tween” years where I was so set on keeping appearances, that I secretly ready Harry Potter in my room and didn’t want to admit that I had jumped on the bandwagon.

Flash forward to 2012, on the precipice of turning a quarter of a century, my Harry Potter freak flag could not be hanging any higher.

I know that this sounds silly, but I feel like every time I read the series, I always learn something new.  It’s like revisiting friends I haven’t seen in a long time. These are books that I’m going to read to my children (if I ever do have children), and that they will hopefully pass down to their children.

Sometimes when I tell people how often I read all seven books they say, “Why don’t you try reading something different once in a while?”

Oh believe me… I do.  This past summer alone I think I read something like ten novels, countless magazines, and a bazillion blogs.

I LOVE to read.  And I’m a fast reader, which is why it is so easy for me to fly though the seven Harry Potter books twice a year.

All the while I still seem to keep up with work, have a social life, and despite my slight obsession, keep some friends around. 😉

So I’ll continue to read the books bi-annually… that is until I receive my letter to Hogwarts…

I’ll continue to wait patiently.

A self-proclaimed Harry Potter FREAK
